Second SEmester News
The second semester does not technically begin until Tuesday, January 17. This means we will have eight days of class remaining before grades are final for the first semester. This is an advantage for many students. We will spend the first four or five class periods in an intensive "writing camp" in order to improve our writing skills before moving in to the second semester. The final exam will be comprehensive, which means it will cover material from the entire first semester: grammar basics, Night, The Odyssey, Greek mythology, epic hero information, etc. We will spend approximately two days reviewing for the final prior to January 12. Students should refer to the links section to find websites to review grammar basics.
Fall Homecoming
Homecoming week begins on Monday. If you haven't made plans for Friday night, plan to attend the ACHS football game and then the Homecoming dance! It's from 9:30 - 11:30 pm in the high school cafeteria. Tickets go on sale Monday and are $3 per person. If you plan to bring an out of town guest, forms are in the office and are due back to Mrs. Soule by Monday, Sept. 19. Check the signs in the halls for spirit dress up days as well! Go Bulldogs!
Welcome back!
Welcome back, Arkansas City High School Bulldogs! Today begins a four-year journey that I hope each of you are ready for. I'm excited about this year and the opportunity to get to know each and every one of you. Hopefully, by the end of the school year, you will have learned a lot - not only about English, math, science, and your other classes, but about you as a student and person. You will make new friends in high school, try new things, become involved in different activities, all in part of growing up. Grades matter in high school. I can't stress this enough. Long gone are the days when you were able to fail a class and simply be passed on to the next grade. In order to graduate and begin your adult life, you must pass your classes. This means, for all of you, work is required. The days of not studying, not doing homework, not participating are behind you. Four years will come and go in the blink of an eye if you are not ready for it. My advice (because, yes, I was once in high school) is to enjoy every minute of it, have fun, but remember why you are here. You are here to get an education. You are here to get a high school diploma. You are here to have fun, yes, but keep your priorities in check. Here's to a good year! Best of luck!
